More than is realized, the meaning of our holidays are not clear to the newer generations. I’m not talking about just children, many adults see Labor Day as just another day off from work or school.
For me, Labor Day has a special meaning. It means laboring, as in, working your ass off. I think of my grand parents who were the men in the trenches, literally. My father’s side were coal miners, most of which died of black lung. They were on the front lines of bringing in labor unions into the mines of West Virginia.
Labor Day honors the working class men and woman who have given us the life in the United States we know today. My heartfelt thanks to the brave laborers of our past we honor today!
Tell us of the proud laborers in your family who paved the way for a better life for all of us.
