You’ve spent the past week organizing, preparing and beautifying your classroom. The plan for the first day of school is to welcome students at the door, greet the parents, guide the student to the planned activity while you start all over again within seconds.
SCREECH….put on the brakes. Think about one part of the student and how you will proceed with that body part. Look down…feet. What is your plan to proactively get your students to clean their feet?
Mud is not found in our area of Florida, we have SAND! My kindergarteners came to me after recess, and we had to take a few minutes for students to dump the sand out of their shoes. I started that little ritual after watching them dump the sand on the floor!
