True to Life Human X-Rays #TeacherGiveaway .@Roylco (X 11/2/14)

RoylcoXRayProductSpotlight

We have the PERFECT Penniless Teacher Product Spotlight this week.  Roylco sent us the True to Life Human X-rays.  Our Kindie teacher moved the unit on bones to accommodate our product spotlight schedule.

As students learned the names of the bones in the body and began asking what they looked like, our teacher pulled out the Roylco True to Life Human X-rays to the astonishment of the students.  Students were given an X-Ray each to locate on their own body.

Have you tried to snap a picture of a student holding an X-Ray?  We tried, we really did!  We found the task IMPOSSIBLE, so we’re using the Roylco image.  After our first round of matching the x-rays with our bodies, we had to repeat because everyone wanted their turn at specific parts.  Not a single student wanted to stop!  Our students are now experts locating various bones in the body and the coordinating x-ray.

Next, we had to put the puzzle of X-Rays together to create “Ray” our skeleton man on the floor.  Ray is quite tall, dwarfing all of the students who decided to lay beside of Ray on the floor.  We are THANKFUL that Roylco has created a product that is durable so that students can hold the product and move around without fear of tearing!  Yippee!

The Roylco True to Life Human X-rays were such a hit with our younger class, they have been passed around many classrooms and grade levels and used in a ton of degrees of human body lessons as the grade levels get higher.

Who knew something so simple could make such an impact on students.  Actual X-Rays like this are going the way of the dinosaur with digital imaging!  You’ll want to get these while they are available to use for many years in the human body lessons.

As we set up for our classroom party Thursday after school, the parents and teacher are going to hang the X-Rays from the ceiling as decoration to keep with our skeleton themed party!  Keeping with the skeleton theme, we plan to create Q-Tip skeletons during our party on Friday, on black construction paper as the background.

Although we used the Roylco True to Life Human X-rays in an elementary setting, all grade levels will find a fantastic hands on activity for students into advanced human anatomy.  I’ll bet those high school students will still be fascinated with a real live Human X-Ray in their hands!

As an anatomy/physiology and biology teacher at a charter school, these x-rays would be perfect when teaching my kids about the skeletal system. We also do “at the clinic” role plays to reinforce the usage of Latin/Greek vocabulary and medical terminology, and they always draw x-ray props for the skits. But if they had these, they could have real X-rays to use instead. These are really great!

The students learn the bones in the body, so these would be perfect to study with.
