My sister has been released from the hospital! WooHoo.
My PSA:
Pay attention to what your body is telling you. My sister is in her 40s, much too young to have a stroke. Being a stay at home mom for many years, she watched her share of morning shows and Doctor Oz. She realized that something was not “right” when she watched her hand hang limply as she was reaching for a towel. Remembering something from one of the many television reports on strokes, she walked to the mirror to watch herself say her own name. It was then she knew what was happening to her. Although she was saying her name (in her head), her lips and voice didn’t show the same thing.
Waking her husband who quickly got her to the hospital along with the team of doctors and nurses at the hospital were another key component in her recovery.
Technology played a HUGE part when a monitor equipped with a camera was wheeled to the bottom of her bed where a neurologist was Skyped. Speaking and seeing the neurologist from Rhode Island, instead of waiting for one to physically arrive at the hospital (here in Florida) enabled the medical staff to evaluate her and administer the miracle drug (I can’t find the name of it) that reversed everything. We seriously cannot tell that anything has happened. She is her normal self – when our wacky family traits are factored in!
The culprit has not been determined as tests have all come back normal. We’re happy she is home so that her two young children (5 & 8 years old) may present her with a cake for her birthday….which is today!
Thank you ALL for your well wishes. I hope to be back to normal posting tomorrow!
