On February 7, Google decided Penniless Teacher blog was spam and DELETED us. I fought hard to get MY blog and content back. It took 27 emails over 5 days trying to keep my cool, but finally Google saw the error of their ways and restored Penniless Teacher. I cannot tell you how frustrating, stressful and utter helplessness I felt.
I found a fantastic WordPress expert who has done wonders to get us an updated design, set up self hosting and transfer everything from Blogger to WordPress! I have heard horror stories from other bloggers that switching platforms is a nightmare. Not with CEO of Me Designs! Misty has done a bang up job. She worked me into her already packed schedule working endless hours to prepare and transfer all content last night.
We tried to keep everything structured as on the previous platform with a few changes because some things didn’t transfer.
1. The Table of Contents is BETTER, allowing you the user to select options for viewing that you prefer! Check it out HERE
2. We’ve added a double menu above and below the banner—-more on that later.
3. The sidebar (on the right) isn’t cluttered with the list of categories, instead, a drop down menu is available.
4. View posts by month using the new Archive drop down menu.
5. I’m THRILLED that the Calendar view of expiring contests/sweeps/grants was easily imported. Check the bottom of this page. The default view is Agenda style. Should you prefer to see a weekly or monthly view, select that view, you are in control. I have to tweak this just a tad.
All of these changes came at a cost, but I think we are all better off. I have to pay for this now, and monthly. Should you find yourself ordering from AMAZON, I would appreciate your order through my Amazon Affiliate link (on the right)……it’s pennies (haha), hopefully your orders will bring in enough to pay the expenses. In addition, ordering from any link posted on Penniless Teacher will also bring in a few cents.
I have a learning curve, but I think I can handle that. To top all of this, Misty created new images for Penniless Teacher Facebook page.
So, what do you think. Like? Change something? Add something you’ve seen on other blogs? Penniless Teacher is about YOU, the teachers who work hard everyday to educate the next generations.
