Ants are facinating. I love looking at the ant farms in the glass houses…kinda like watching a fire burn…mezmerizing!
Help map the ant diversity and species across North American. Priority states at present are New York, Wisconsin and Washington, but will take ant samples from anywhere in the U.S.A.
If you study ants in your curriculum, here is a real world activity to turn students into scientists! Instructions on the website outline the collecting, recording data and submission of your ant sample.
Your classroom data is added to the Map where students can see the data submitted and the ants identified by the School of Ants researchers.
Check out the Ant Essay Contest–but it is due Sept. 1, 2012 (a bit late, sorry). Fingers crossed another will be on the heels of this one.
