How do you make test day fun?

WeAreTeachersMakeTestDayFunGiveaway4.14.15
We’ve seen the school wide rally, the grade level rally, and the classroom rally. How do you make test day fun?

In my classroom teacher life, I was task with testing the kids who had a 504 (all had some type of special accommodation). I was allowed and encouraged, to stop testing every 20 minutes, pack up the test booklets and march the kiddos out to the playground.

I couldn’t believe how much more relaxed the kids were knowing they only had to sit and concentrate for 20 minutes. The break provided and allowed the kids to shake off the stress. I did this for years and because I had the 504 kiddos, I had the same kids each year. Let me tell you, the kids were excited to test with me because they knew the process, plus I gave them all the peppermint candy they wanted!

One of the girls testing was a big girl. She was extremely tall for her age, she towered over me in the third grade (I’m 5’6″). Beautiful girl who just wasn’t accepting of her body at that time, great personality and loved by everyone who met her. Returning from one of our breaks, she sits down at the desk and the desk literally crashes to the floor. She had not touched the desk. It looked and sounded like the desk exploded.  After the initial SHOCK of the CRASHING desk, all of the students, including the girl, and myself were laughing at the top of our lungs!

The CRASH of the desk was heard far and wide bringing administrators running to the room. Entering the room, they encountered a room full of laughter, creating another wave of laughter when we saw their confused faces. Followed by an eruption of students trying to tell the administrators what had happened.  One happy accident that gave us the BEST testing day ever!

So, what is your story. How do you makes test day fun?
