Hot Dots Laugh It Up! Review and Giveaway (X 3/6/13)

Can I tell you how in love we are with Educational Insights Hot Dots?  Our Hot Dots of choice this time around was spelling for grades 1-3 and grades 4-6.
Students read the cards and select the correct response, by placing the Hot Dots pen on the dot beside of the student response, where the Hot Dots Pen gives immediate feedback to either help the student, or congratulate them on a job well done.  Do you think she could get her face any closer?  That’s called LAZY!
We adore the content on the Laugh It Up! Spelling grades 1-3.  Students are given a riddle along with the answer to the riddle.  Using the context clues in the riddle and the answer, the student then chooses the correct answer.  Picture clues are also included!
Grades 1-3 provides practice with short and long vowels, r-controlled vowels, blends and digraphs, sight words, plurals, contractions, homophones and more so that students may improve spelling and writing skills.
Grades 4-6 practice includes special vowel combinations, contractions, plurals, suffixes, homophones, and silent letters for spelling and writing improvement.
We are super partial to these Hot Dot pens as opposed to Kitty the Kat pen we received with a younger set of Hot Dots.  Why?  Well, if the pen is not positioned and pressed correctly, the student could receive a false feedback, or even NO feedback from the pen.  This pen can only be used the correct way, straight up and then press down because the applicator tip is short.  An improvement in our book.
Because six pens are included, this is a perfect small group activity, or can be used with pairs of students.  I love holding competitions with groups of students,  these sets would be fantastic to engage the entire classroom while at the same time encouraging collaboration within each group.  My students loved that they could “help” each other in these groups.

My little Hot Dots girl is in Kindergarten and had minor issues with certain words, but is an advanced reader for her age.

If you would like to win the Laugh It Up! Spelling Cards and six Hot Dot Pens for your classroom, enter below.  This giveaway is for classroom teachers K-12 in the U.S.

    Rafflecopter isn’t cooperating.

    There were two entry options,
like Educational Insights and Penniless Teacher on Facebook.

I can only get one to show up, so we’re just going with that.

    I apologize to everyone.

    Please try again.
