Hi Everyone ~ It’s Stacy from Simpson Superstars. I am so excited to be the guest blogger today while Penny is on her mini hiatus.
I have been a kindergarten teacher for 17 years and I have really enjoyed it. When Penny asked me to guest blog about the beginning of school I thought it would be easy peasy. But then SCREECH (imagine the sound of me slamming on my car brakes) I just found out that I’m moving to first grade next year. . . WHAT???!!!!! Anyone who knows me, knows that I HATE change but I must say, I’m kind of excited to do something new (shhhhhh. . . I don’t want my principal to know just yet that she was right).
After the initial shock wore off, I went back to read one of my posts from a few weeks ago. I wrote about the first week of kindergarten (click here to read). Here are some of the books that I used during the first weeks of school last year. I think that as long as I stay away from any that have the word kindergarten in the title, I should be able to use them with my new group of firsties. I haven’t really had a chance to nail down all of the activities that I will be doing with my new superstars, but I am sure many of my activities will be based on some of these books.
In my kindergarten post, I listed two objectives that I have always had for the first few days of school. Guess what. . .these will still be my two primary goals.
1. Teach as many procedures as I can ~ we will go over our daily schedule, walking in line, center rotations, cafeteria procedures, daily routines, classroom rules blah, blah, blah.
2. HAVE FUN ~ as long as the kids leave each day with a smile on their faces, then I know I’ve done my job and hopefully they will be excited to come back.
If you would like to read about my journey as I step into this new adventure, you can follow along with me at my blog:
Thanks Penny for letting me take over your blog for the day. SHINE on everyone!
