Creating a fun and inviting atmosphere and environment in a classroom has become easier through the years.  Stark, bare walls have been replaced with amazing resources and creativity of classroom teachers.  A simple scan of Pinterest attests to learning experiences to make all adults jealous…we certainly didn’t have classrooms with color coordinated items when I attended school.

It is a REALLY good thing we have an entire school of teachers and students willing to be our guinea pigs testers.  When I send an email invitation asking for a volunteer, teachers scramble to be the first to respond to snag an opportunity.

We placed this adorable “Creativity is Contagious” Cozy Wall Art in our classroom.  It is a bit difficult on concrete block walls, but we got it!  I know it would be a snap if you have smooth walls.  Notice the paint brush in the hand of the er-girl?  We selected the perfect classroom—ART!

The student assignment was to create collaborative drawing that is used for a fundraiser to fund the art program at the school.  Annually, each grade level of students create a LARGE project that is then auctioned at the annual Spring PTO community auction.  The theme last year was famous artists.  Can you guess what the theme is this year?  You got it, “Creativity is Contagious!”

Upon entering the room and seeing the Cozy Wall Art we heard student statements:

• What is THAT?
• COOL!
• She is SO pretty.
• Is that a girl?
• I love the swirls.
• The nose looks like a horn!

Excitedly, students began to draw their ideas to be submitted to the teacher who will select the finalist per grade level.  Students will then vote to select the winning drawing to be turned into a 4′ X 4′ painting.

Step out of your teaching comfort zone, look around, bring the unusual into your classroom to use as prompts for students.  Encouraging students to embrace creativity will set them on the road to becoming well rounded adults.  Who knew you could find a prompt in Cozy Wall Art?
